Writing

Ghostwriting: your book, your name, written with a professional at the keyboard.

For authors who have the story, the expertise or the life behind a book, but not the months of writing time it would take to get it down.

What this is

Ghostwriting is a collaboration, not a handover. The ghostwriter interviews you at length, works from your material, learns how you speak, and writes the book in your voice. You direct it, you review every chapter, and your name goes on the cover.

It works particularly well for memoir, business books and expertise-led nonfiction — the categories where the author's experience is the book's value, and the constraint is time rather than material.

What you get

What ghostwriting actually delivers

01

Your voice, professionally written

The ghostwriter studies how you actually speak and writes to it, so readers who know you recognise you on the page.

02

Structured interviewing

Sessions designed to draw out the detail, chronology and specifics that make a book worth reading.

03

Chapter-by-chapter control

You review and approve as it goes, so the book cannot drift far from what you intended.

04

Confidentiality by default

Ghostwriting is confidential. The writer's involvement is yours to disclose or not.

05

Realistic scope from the start

A word count, chapter plan and schedule agreed before writing begins, rather than discovered halfway through.

How it runs

The process, stage by stage.

Each stage finishes before the next begins, and you see the work at the points where your decision changes what happens next.

Discovery

Long-form conversation about the book, the reader and what you want it to achieve.

Outline

A chapter-by-chapter plan you approve before any drafting starts.

Interviews

Recorded sessions, plus any documents, notes or existing writing you can supply.

Chapter drafts

Delivered in batches for your review and correction as the book builds.

Full draft and revision

The complete manuscript, then a revision round against your notes before it goes to editing.

Questions

About ghostwriting

Yours. That is the arrangement. Whether the ghostwriter is credited anywhere is entirely your decision and is agreed in writing beforehand.

You do. The engagement assigns the work to you as the author. Read the terms and ask if anything is unclear before signing.

Considerably less than writing it yourself, but not none. Expect a series of substantial interview sessions plus review time on each chapter. The book will be better for your involvement.

Fiction ghostwriting is possible but harder, because voice in fiction is doing more work. Send the concept and any sample writing and we will tell you honestly whether it is a good fit.

Next step

Wondering whether your book needs ghostwriting?

Send the manuscript. We will read it and tell you honestly which services it needs — including the ones it does not.
